Josh Fine for H.P. Board of Ed.
To the editor,
We are writing to you in support of Josh Fine, a candidate for the Highland Park Board of Education in the April 2011 elections. As parents of a 6-year-old special needs child attending Irving Primary School, we are very interested in Mr. Fine’s platform.
One of his main positions is a review of the special education policies currently in place in order to implement new ideas and services. He also advocates for better dissemination of information to residents regarding services that are provided through the school system, whether for special needs or not. That will definitely help any parent trying to navigate the different programs available by informing them of what their options are, and how to even get started.
Furthermore, Mr. Fine has openly stated his plans to fight for more transparency in the school budget, asking for detailed allocations of the school budget to be posted on the board’s website.
Whether one plans on utilizing the school system or not, Mr. Fine is the right choice for the school board and the Highland Park community as a whole. He has made it clear that he is interested in maintaining a high quality educational system, one that not only benefits every child directly, but also the community as a whole, contributing to higher property values and less crime.
