I'd Like To See You Make Me
Sometimes for a substantial task, the motivation to move forward is close at hand. Such was the case for Dr. Lie Yang, a licensed acupuncturist in New York who recently opened the personalized gift store Make Me Take Me at 248 Raritan Avenue in Highland Park.
“The idea is inspired by my two daughters,’’ Dr. Yang said. “It was named by my girls, the business is for them.’’
Make Me Take Me is a do-it-yourself workshop that gives patrons the opportunity to be creative and have fun while making the gift of a Mi-doll themselves. Six inches tall and three inches wide, the Mi-doll uses a photo "of your face (or any face you choose to be on the doll), printed on a special material. Then a special machine turns it into a 3-D mask and attaches it to the doll of your choice." Make Me Take Me also provides customers with the opportunity to paint their own personalized pottery-cartoon mug, (ceramic pottery bisque), and offers hosting of a large variety of parties.
“The Mi-doll business is new to the U.S. market and is cute and attractive,’’ Yang said. “I am learning every day, especially from our customers who are children, they are the future.’’
Since deciding to open his store in Highland Park, Dr. Yang is pleased with his location and the exposure of Route 27. In addition, he says, “Highland Park is a very artistic community.
“Make Me Take Me is not only a local retail store. We are actually a wholesale for (pottery) bisque as well and continue to develop DIY service in the future. We are targeting nationwide. We are in the recruiting stage for sales personnel.’’ Dr. Yang would also like to help others develop their small business kiosks, a stand or shop.
“I will provide a free business plan to help kiosk owners go through this tough time,’’ he said.
