Another vote for Fine

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

As an alumnus of the Highland Park Public Schools, I am writing to you in support of Josh Fine, a candidate for the Highland Park Board of Education in the April 27, 2011 election.

I first got to know Josh while serving with him on Mayor Steve Nolan’s Special Commission on Shared Services. We were appointed to that commission to find savings without cutting services. As I developed a friendship with Josh, I found someone committed to Highland Park and public service. It seemed that every meeting brought a new idea from Josh on how we could maintain or improve services while doing so more efficiently.

I am confident that if Josh is elected to the school board, he will bring his superb energy and commitment to help preserve the schools that I attended and ensure that Highland Park schools are among the state’s best.

Those who would distort the record for purely political reasons have claimed that Josh supports the proposed charter school. The fact is that Josh has consistently been opposed to the proposed charter school.

Our schools are an important community resource, one that led my family to move to Highland Park two decades ago. When our resources are strapped and limited, we need to find creative solutions to maintain and improve the services that our schools provide to the students and the community as a whole. Josh will be that school board member that finds creative solutions that allow us to enhance our schools ever further.
