Visual installation unleashed on the Avenue
" align="center" link="/pp/image/1018-splash" nid="223" preset="large" teaser="1"]Starting October 18, in conjunction with the annual Highland Park Open Studios day, storefronts along Raritan Avenue will collectively form an outdoor gallery for artworks by 20 local artists. This "Window Art" will stretch literally from A to Z (visit A Garden Party, 60-A Raritan Ave. at Cedar Ave., and finish up at Zeina Restaurant, 441 Raritan at North Fifth Ave.) The exhibition will remain on view through November 22, featuring installations of sculpture, ceramics, photographs and paintings.
Since the display is so spread out, the traditional gallery opening will be replaced by a "Window Crawl," gathering at the office of Main Street Highland Park, 421 Raritan Ave., at 7 PM. Artists, shopowners and such entourage as can be assembled will stroll together from one venue to another, admiring and discussing the art along the way.
Following the stroll, White Lotus Home hosts an organic wine and beer tasting, followed by a show and snacks at the Gallery at 421 Raritan (upstairs in the same building). This will be the Gallery's inaugural showing, and will culminate in a performance by Brazilian dance group Zumba. Psychologist, artist and poet John Marron will present "Alfa-pneumerica," his 3-1/2 minute jazz scat based on signs and sounds of world alphabetical and numbering systems.
Window Art is sponsored by the Highland Park Arts Commission and Main Street Highland Park, with assistance from the Highland Park Artists Collective.
