Mirror feature is offensive
In the [Dec. 6th] issue of The Mirror ["Free Will Astrology"], there are a number of crudely phrased remarks concerning Catholicism, remarks that display irrational hostility and ignorance.
This is, of course, offensive to Catholic readers. It is also offensive to those non-Catholic readers who may abhor such expressions of prejudice.
The author of the remarks owes an apology to all these readers: an apology in which humor or freedom of speech and the press are not offered as excuses.
Since the Mirror is described as reflecting the community of Highland Park, the author should also explain what part of the community is reflected in his ill-chosen remarks.

Watching the watchers
There is a current story in your [Jan. 13th] paper about the Redevelopment Board meeting on January 2 written by Jane Humenuk. I didn't notice any members of the press at the meeting, so I was wondering how the reporter gathered her information to write the actual story that she contributed to the paper.

Our reporter confirms your observation that she did not attend the meeting. Her information came from HPRA executive director Mona Phillips, which should have been stated in the article. I apologize for the misrepresentation. - D.Y.
Hoodwinked
We moved to Highland Park for the cultural diversity, schools and area facilities. In 2-1/2 years we have seen the loss of the YMHA and the imminent transformation of a neighborhood supermarket into a pharmacy/foodmart. After attending a parlor meeting with our re-elected mayor, I was optimistic about the town and planning. Now, I feel hoodwinked. What is next, more gift shops ?!?!
